Walter Lau Wins APT Taipei 2026 Main Event in Record-Breaking Festival

APT Taipei 2026 has broken records with a massive turnout and prize money. The festival attracted 26,009 entries, making it the largest event of its kind. Chun Shing 'Walter' Lau emerged as the champion in the Main Event, securing his biggest career win to date. The festival ran for several days, drawing 3,890 unique players and 26,009 total entries. The Main Event alone saw 2,354 participants, creating a prize pool of TWD 111,862,080 (around USD 3.58 million). This marked the highest total prize money in the festival’s history, with over TWD 598,932,533 (approximately USD 19.13 million) awarded across all events.

Lau outlasted the field, defeating Joshua McCully in a heads-up battle to claim the title. His victory earned him TWD 16,640,100 (about USD 533,340), more than seven times his previous live tournament winnings of roughly USD 75,000. The win also granted him a seat in the APT Championship 2026 Main Event, a tournament with a USD 5 million guaranteed prize pool. The top six finishers in the Main Event each secured a spot in the APT Championship 2026. The festival’s success highlighted its growing appeal, with both entry numbers and prize pools setting new benchmarks.

Lau’s triumph marks a career milestone, boosting his total live earnings significantly. The festival’s record-breaking figures confirm its status as a major event in the poker calendar. All six finalists now have guaranteed seats in next year’s high-stakes championship.
