A jackpot is not guaranteed, but the habit of playing the lottery and checking your tickets will certainly give you something to look forward to every week.

One Australian couple has won AUD 1,260,098.55, or roughly $840,000, which is their share of the five-split jackpot that was won by five division one entries in the TattsLotto draw on Saturday, March 21.

The couple, who reside in Melbourne, will use the money towards a new home, and the win was a major surprise for the Melburnians. The husband said that they were "absolutely dumbfounded" and that the event had caught them unawares, as they usually do not bother buying tickets unless the prize runs in the tens of millions.

"I don't normally purchase lottery tickets unless the prize on offer is AUD30 million or above, but I thought, why not! I'm so glad I ended up purchasing a ticket in the draw. I just woke up on Sunday morning and decided to check the ticket. My wife wasn't home, so I had to give her a call and tell her the good news."
