JNF-USA funds Israeli settlements and far-right US groups with millions in grants
The Jewish National Fund-USA (JNF-USA) has allocated millions in grants to groups supporting Israeli settlements and controversial political causes. Recent funding includes $1.3 million for an organisation aiding Jewish migration to occupied Palestinian territories. The group’s activities have drawn criticism for reinforcing discrimination and expanding illegal settlements. JNF-USA has long funded projects in the West Bank and Golan Heights, including a promenade and memorial in the Gush Etzion settlement. Its Israeli partner, KKL-JNF, is now targeting Palestinian properties near settlements to facilitate further expansion. Israeli journalist Gideon Levy has accused the organisation of concealing the ruins of ethnically cleansed Palestinian villages beneath forests.
A recent $1.3 million grant went to Nefesh B’Nefesh, which helps Jews relocate to West Bank settlements. Another $375,000 supported the Israel on Campus Coalition, a group linked to Israeli government efforts to monitor and harass pro-Palestinian students and academics. The organisation has also backed far-right US groups. A $10,000 grant went to the David Horowitz Freedom Center, known for Islamophobic and anti-Black rhetoric. The Gatestone Institute, which spreads anti-Muslim conspiracy theories, received $20,000. Meanwhile, former NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire will headline a JNF-USA poker tournament on 11 March. The event aims to promote the group’s work and Stoudemire’s wine brand.
JNF-USA’s funding continues to support settlement growth and politically charged organisations. The grants reinforce ties between US donors and Israeli policies in occupied territories. Critics argue the money deepens discrimination and fuels conflict in the region.
