Boat owners leap into the Adriatic Sea. - The Marina is in flames!
On Wednesday morning, a catastrophic fire ravaged a marina in Croatia's Adriatic Sea, resulting in the destruction of 22 boats. Luckily, there were no casualties reported.
The first emergency call came in at approximately 4 am, quickly followed by a rapid spread of the fire from boat to boat in Medulin, a small Istrian peninsula town. Authorities are currently attempting to determine the reason behind this devastating fire.
Boat owners sought refuge in the water
Bystander photos on social media showcased burning boats in the harbor. According to local media, frightened owners attempted to save themselves by jumping into the sea. Firefighters rushed to separate unaffected boats from the flames, possibly due to leaked fuel that resulted in a petrol film on the harbor's surface, even igniting.
The fire was eventually contained. The government took preventive measures by installing barriers in the sea to stop any further environmental harm.
The Croatian Adriatic coast is a favored destination for European tourists and is also a popular spot for yacht enthusiasts. Medulin, in particular, is a hotspot for boat owners from Germany, Austria, and Italy.
