Partaking in the tradition on the balcony
To commemorate his 56th birthday, the royal family shared a new snapshot of Frederik X on their Instagram, capturing him in a military uniform and fixing his gaze on the camera. The statement from the palace read, "It's His Majesty the King's birthday, and he's turning 56 today. The celebration takes place at 12:00 noon in Amalienborg where the King and the Royal Family will appear on the balcony of Frederik's Palace. All those who want to join are welcome." Those wishing to send their congratulations can do so by reaching out through the royal family's social media or signing the digital list on their website.
In a post on Instagram a day prior, the palace stressed this birthday event upholds a "unique tradition in the royal house." Amalienborg has been the backdrop for other significant birthday observances in the past. The royal family also shared pictures from the years 1932, 1946, 1950, 1957, 1965, 1984, and 2015.
Frederik assumed the role as regent in January, taking over from his mother Queen Margrethe II (84), who marked 52 years on the throne. Apart from his birthday, the year has many more reasons to toast – he celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary with his spouse Mary (52) on May 14 as well.
