Elderly man (76 years old) killed during break-in. - Fugitive (38) turns himself in to authorities
A 77-year-old woman survived after being attacked, but unfortunately, her 76-year-old husband passed away several months after the incident, in March 2024. In the end of April, the police in Bonn released an image of the potential murderer: Vasile A. (38) - with a height of 1.69 meters, brown eyes, a strong build, and tattoos on his back, arms, and shoulders.
An intricate public search for the perpetrator that went beyond what the initial information suggested. Vasile A. was detained shortly after the crime, but was then released again, and subsequently evaded capture.
The crime during the summer solstice
A group of three seems to have targeted the senior citizens' possessions, not anticipating their presence during the robbery itself.
Investigators quickly identified two men and a woman in connection with the crime. One of the men has been on trial for murder and attempted murder since April's start. He may face a life sentence. The woman and A. needed to be let go at that time due to insufficient evidence.
A 5000 euro reward for help in the manhunt
Further evidence linking Vasile A. to the crime surfaced during the main hearing of his alleged accomplice before the Bonn district court. As a result, the district court issued a new arrest warrant for the 38-year-old, while the Bonn public prosecutor's office announced a €5,000 reward for his capture.
Did the intensity of the manhunt become too overwhelming for him? The truth: Vasile A. turned himself in to the authorities on Wednesday. He was immediately arrested and his arrest warrant was issued on the same day.
