Sky River Casino Plans Major Expansion After Record-Breaking Start

Sky River Casino, a $500 million resort near Sacramento, is now planning an expansion after a strong start. Owned by the Wilton Rancheria tribe, the casino opened in Elk Grove in August 2022 and has already generated significant revenue for the community. Management is now reviewing ways to grow the property while benefiting both visitors and locals.

The casino launched as part of a partnership with Boyd Gaming, which will handle operations for the first seven years. During its trial period, it earned $21 million in management fees for the tribe in the last quarter of 2022 alone. The facility currently spans over 11,000 square feet of gaming space, featuring 2,000 slot machines, 80 table games, and a 12-story hotel.

Guests have shown interest in additional features, such as more entertainment options and expanded hotel services. The proposed expansion aligns with the casino’s original plans to create a full resort experience. While some Elk Grove residents welcome the increased traffic and economic activity, others have raised concerns about safety and congestion. With its initial success, Sky River Casino is now assessing how best to expand. The goal is to enhance the property’s value while continuing to support the local community.

The expansion follows a successful first phase, with the casino already contributing millions to the tribe and local economy. If approved, the new developments will build on the existing resort, offering more amenities for visitors. The project will also address feedback from both guests and residents as it moves forward.
