Russian schools showcase heritage in national museum competition with 5,000 entries
Russia’s Znanie Society has received nearly 5,000 entries for its national school museum competition. The contest, launched on the instruction of President Vladimir Putin, highlights projects from across the country. Schools in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast contributed 33 submissions, securing 10th place in the Volga Federal District. A total of 4,696 applications were submitted to the competition. The most popular theme, chosen by 43% of participants, centred on the memory of the Defenders of the Fatherland. In Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, this category also saw the highest number of entries.
School No. 41 in Nizhny Novgorod created a collection focused on the region’s daily life and cultural traditions. Meanwhile, School No. 4 in Yuganets developed an exhibition honouring submarine officer Vladimir Sadovoy. Another standout project came from School No. 20 in Dzerzhinsk, which presented a museum exploring river history and local heritage.
Beyond the competition, 24 school museums in the oblast organised educational events for students. These sessions covered topics related to the special military operation. Ethnography and local history also featured prominently, making up 23% of all applications nationwide. The competition showcased a wide range of student-led projects, from military history to regional culture. Nizhny Novgorod Oblast’s contributions included exhibitions on local traditions, wartime heroes, and interactive learning events. The results reflect both the scale of participation and the diversity of themes explored by schools.
