'Lucky' Wins $1 Million Lottery Prize on His Birthday Break

An American from DuPage County, Illinois, had a sudden impulse during his lunch break and bought a scratch-off ticket at a gas station. That ticket changed his life when he became an instant millionaire.

American Wins Lottery Jackpot—During Lunch Break

The lottery player, who wishes to remain anonymous and is known only by the pseudonym "Lucky," won a $1 million top prize in late April, according to a press release from the Illinois Lottery. He had spent just $50 on the scratch-off ticket, purchased at his favorite gas station.

When he saw the winning numbers on his ticket during a workday lunch break, he could hardly believe his luck. "I just celebrated my birthday a few weeks ago, so this win feels like the perfect gift," Lucky told lottery officials.

Man Has Already Won the Lottery 20 Times

Lucky said he frequently visits the gas station: "I come here often and am good friends with the staff. They were absolutely thrilled when I shared the good news." This isn't his first big win, he added: "I play the lottery often and have already won about 20 times, with prizes ranging from $1,000 to $5,000."

With his million-dollar windfall, the American plans to invest in his family, buy a new house, and go shopping for new clothes. "I also intend to donate a portion to a local hospital," the lucky winner said in closing.
