The winner decided to try his luck after watching TikTok videos of people winning big prizes. The fortunate player's wife initially thought the prize was $50,000 but her husband noticed it was in fact $500,000.
An incredibly fortunate lottery player watched a TikTok video and decided to give scratch-off tickets a try.
The lucky 63-year-old man won the first top prize in the newly-launched $500,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game in Michigan.
The winner scored the top prize on the $500,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier ticket
The winner, a Detroit resident, purchased his ticket at New Quick Stop Market on 8059 West Grand River Avenue in Detroit.
Interestingly, the game he decided to play, the $500,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier, was launched by the Michigan Lottery in February.
Each ticket costs $5 and grants players a chance to win a prize between $5 and $500,000.
Since launching the new game, the ticket has awarded more than $6m in prizes.
As noted, the $500,000 prize marks the first top win from the new scratch-off ticket, and there are two more top prizes remaining in play.
A tier-two prize from the $500,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier awards $10,000, while a tier-three prize awards $2,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the $5 scratch-off ticket are 1 in 4.10.
A video on TikTok prompted the winner to try scratch-off tickets
Recently, the Detroit man visited the Michigan Lottery to claim his big win.
The 63-year-old man said: "I saw some TikTok videos of people scratching lottery tickets and winning big, and I thought to myself how that would never happen to me".
The winner added that he was together with his wife when they started scratching off the tickets they purchased.
At some point, the winner's wife exclaimed: "We got a winner!" Initially, the woman thought that the prize was $50,000.
However, as her husband looked again, he realized that the prize was significantly bigger, $500,000.
The lucky 63-year-old man acknowledged that winning such a life-changing lottery prize felt amazing.
Asked about his plans for the newfound fortune, the man admitted that he would save the winnings.
