Buenos Aires Province to Open Seven New Casinos in Major Gambling Expansion

The Province of Buenos Aires is set to expand its gambling sector with seven new brick-and-mortar casinos. Gonzalo Atanasof, head of the Provincial Institute of Lottery and Casinos, has launched a bidding process to attract operators and boost tourism. The bidding will officially open on July 8, 2025, with contracts expected to last 20 years. Existing casino operators with expiring concessions are being encouraged to submit stronger proposals.

The new venues will be located in Necochea, Miramar, Tandil, Sasso, Hermitage, Mar de Ajó, and Sierra de la Ventana. Authorities aim to modernise the industry, increase competitiveness, and draw more visitors to the region. This move contrasts with the City of Buenos Aires, which halted new online casino licences in 2024 over concerns about underage gambling and player safety. The two jurisdictions—city and province—maintain separate regulations for both online and offline betting.

The expansion plans signal a push to revitalise tourism and investment in the province. With bidding set to begin next summer, operators will soon compete for long-term casino rights. The province hopes the new sites will strengthen its position in Argentina’s gambling market.
