French Tennis Tournament - Upcoming match between Nadal and Zverev leaves Nadal with minimal expectations.
Nadal, the record-holding winner of the French Open, displays a determined attitude before his match against Zverev. Speaking at a press conference in Paris, the 37-year-old Spaniard shared, "If I didn't have a burning desire to succeed at this event, I wouldn't be here today. I still hold some motivation and a small bit of hope to perform well."
The match between Nadal and the Olympic gold medalist Zverev (27) is scheduled for Monday in the initial round of the year's second Grand Slam tournament. Zverev, who has been in top form, stands as the favorite in their encounter.
Reflecting on the challenge, Nadal commented, "On paper, this isn't the most favorable draw. I'm up against one of the best players; he's come to dominate the tournament. I've accepted it. There's not much I can do; I can only prepare myself as well as possible." Due to persistent injuries, Nadal hasn't been seeded for this year's tournament.
His exceptional 112-3 match record at the Stade Roland Garros leaves the possibility of an early elimination in what is likely his last French Open appearance. Nadal admitted, "There's a very, very high chance that this will be my final performance at Roland Garros. But I don't want to close the door completely." Currently aiming to end his exceptional career at the conclusion of the season, Nadal has undergone a fortnight of intense training in preparation for the match with Zverev.
The Spanish tennis star expressed, "My physical condition has improved, and I've made some advancements in different aspects of my game. I'm also relying on the tremendous support from the crowd, which provides me with immense strength."
