Alliance by Sahra Wagenknecht forms Brandenburg regional branch

The initial party event for the Brandenburg BSW occurred out of view to the general public; outsiders, including press members, were denied entry. BSW co-chairwoman Amira Mohamed Ali confirmed this standard practice during an interview with RBB on Saturday. According to Mohamed Ali, the BSW has had positive experiences with this method in other national affiliations.

Necessary steps were being taken by the BSW to become part of the September Brandenburg elections, as Mohamed Ali pointed out. Among other objectives, the BSW aimed to safeguard industrial jobs in Brandenburg and work towards relieving local governments of financial struggles. This was not their sole focus, she added; migration, health care, and education were also significant areas.

Mohamed Ali revealed that the BSW had not yet developed a state list for the September 22nd Brandenburg elections, a task left for the first state party conference. A specific date for the conference was still pending.

Since the party's national inception at the start of January, the Brandenburg state association represents the fourth of its kind. Additional state associations are found in Saxony, Thuringia, and Saarland.

Earlier in April, Infratest dimap institute surveyed by Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg placed the BSW at around a 10% approval rating in Brandenburg. Dietmar Woidke's SPD was polling at 22%, while the AfD maintained a 26% standing. The CDU trailed with an 18% approval; the Greens were at 8%, and the Left Party was placed at 6%.

Almost half of those surveyed, 48%, believed that the Sahra Wagenknecht alliance offered something distinct from other parties. The strongest support for the new grouping came from AfD backers, with 62% expressing a positive view, followed by Left Party enthusiasts at 49%.
