Is this the ultimate severance from her father? - Suri desires a name change from Cruise.
In the month of May, Suri Cruise made her first step as an actress in the musical "Head Over Heels." This show is presented annually by the Broadway Workshop, which is an acting school for young people. Suri played the character "Philoclea" in New York, providing a glimpse into her potential inherited acting abilities from her parents.
What's even more intriguing than her debut in the musical is the name credited on the cast list: Suri Noelle!
Yet, according to her birth certificate, her name is Suri Cruise ...
Is this a further sign of how fragile her relationship with her father, Tom Cruise (61), is? The two have been separated for years. After his divorce from Katie Holmes (45), Tom reportedly cut ties with his daughter and ex-wife, allegedly following Scientology's orders. He has been associated with this religious organization for decades.
It wouldn't be a shock if Suri decided to end her remaining ties with her father. Rumors circulate that Tom has been depriving his daughter of financial support. He has been providing her with $40,000 (equivalent to €38,000) per month. According to American law, only parents with legal custody are required to pay child support.
Even if they want to attend college, which is a typical American custom, the cost averages at $150,000. This would be an insignificant expense for Cruise, whose estimated net worth is $600 million.
So, is the new name a way of seeking revenge?
Suri is Tom Cruise's only biological child. He adopted Isabella (31) and Connor (29) with ex-wife Nicole Kidman (56) in 1995. They haven't maintained any contact with the actress since their separation in 2001.
The two were brought up to believe in Scientology and supposedly still adhere to its teachings - unlike Kidman. Just a week earlier, Cruise and his children posed together for a picture taken by former footballer Derrick Brooks (51).
The separation from Katie Holmes can be linked to Scientology. When the couple started their relationship, Holmes, who grew up Catholic, was initially fascinated by Hubbard's teachings. But as time passed, she began to doubt Scientology's influence on Tom and even feared that the megastar might kidnap their daughter. Consequently, Holmes filed for divorce in 2012. Tom has played minimal role in Suri's life since.
Suri turned 18 on April 18th. And at this age, she's now legally eligible to make her own decisions. However, it's unknown if she's simply using her mother's middle name for her stage name or if she's officially changed it. As an adult, she's legally entitled to make this decision.
The new name further distances her from her father.
