Law Enforcement Conducts Gaming Incursions in San Diego and Michigan

A search of a house in San Diego, California on Thursday uncovered approximately two dozen gambling machines and $4,700. Apart from this, authorities seized suspected drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Nine individuals were gambling inside the establishment during the raid, as per the San Diego Police Department (SDPD). One of them was arrested for possessing controlled substances, and another was charged for visiting an illegal gambling establishment.

Eight suspects were given a warning not to engage in illegal gambling. If they return to an illicit gambling operation in the future, they could face charges, according to SDPD Lt. Jason Scott.

Investigations into suspicious activities in the apartment above a business in the Kensington neighborhood led SDPD officers to this discovery. After gathering evidence, they approached the local court and obtained a search warrant for the property.

SDPD aims to curb illegal gambling, as it often leads to other criminal activities, authorities warn. Illegal gambling dens tend to attract various illicit activities such as narcotics, prostitution, gang-related activity, nuisances like noise and fights, and people coming and going at all hours, according to Scott, as reported by City News Service.

SDPD's vice unit and SWAT teams teamed up with patrol officers for the raid.

Six slot machine-style devices and $5,161 were confiscated this month during a raid of a bar in Saginaw, Michigan. Additionally, $2,820 in gift cards were taken from the Red Horse Bar, as revealed by Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) officials on Thursday.

The raid took place on June 5, following a tip from a private citizen about questionable activities occurring at the bar.

The MGCB had previously issued a cease-and-desist letter to the bar owners. However, authorities claim that illegal activities persisted there.

Michigan State Police and the Attorney General’s office aided MGCB investigators in the investigation.

"We remain determined in our commitment to enforcing all state gambling regulations," said Henry Williams, MGCB Executive Director, in a statement. "We will continue to work tirelessly to identify and eradicate any illegal gambling activities that could harm the gambling industry's integrity and the public's welfare."

Owners Christopher and Nicholas Adams were arrested on gambling charges. They appeared in local court on June 6 and were released after posting $6K bonds. The charges against them are still pending.
