The individual desires to leave jail. - Josef Fritzl (age 89) yearns for a country home of his own.
Josef Fritzl, the "Monster of Amstetten" at 89 years old, who spent 24 years keeping his daughter captive in a basement dungeon he had made himself, abusing her and having seven kids with her, now wants a house in the country. This news was shared by his lawyer, Astrid Wagner, in an interview with the Kronen Zeitung newspaper.
The situation could possibly result in Fritzl being shifted from the high-security area of the psychiatric ward to a normal prison thanks to a regional court's decision. The reason being his worsening dementia and steady decline in health. According to professionals, Fritzl no longer poses a danger.
Astrid Wagner, his lawyer, believes that Fritzl, who has been serving a life sentence since 2009, might be moved to a common prison and then to the infirmary very soon. He is currently in Stein prison, but transfer to Suben or Tullnerbach is also a possibility. The lawyer plans to petition for easing his sentences later, once he has settled in.
Lawyer's plans for Fritzl's future
This would involve further treatments for his dementia. Another requirement is "accompanied outings" made possible.
Before the decision was made, they last discussed Fritzl's spending money. He wished to buy fruits, since he is also determined to live a healthy lifestyle.
Fritzl has a grand vision though: an independent life and eventual release into freedom. Astrid Wagner remarked, "His dream of a small house in the countryside with a train connection is now closer, even with many miles still to go."
