Racist individuals at a party on Sylt - Gigi D'Agostino claims his song is misused due to its association with love.

Since Thursday, a colorful video has been making the rounds on social media where visitors to the glitzy Sylt resort of Kampen are singing racist slogans to the tune of Gigi D'Agostino's popular song "L'Amour tojours." The horrifying incident has left many stunned, but it's probably most distressing for the creator of the song.

Italian DJ and producer Gigi D'Agostino spoke to Der Spiegel about his feelings on this incident. He said his song is about "love, a beautiful, strong, and powerful feeling that connects people." It's about "love," added this Turin native.

Shock Waves: "L'Amour tojours" Used for Hate Speech

The word "love" doesn't seem to align with the events of this story. "L'Amour tojours," a song released in 2001, has been a hit on dance floors since then. There's a disturbing version of the song being played in some areas where the crowd sings along to the lines "Germany for Germans, foreigners out" with the tune. The nationwide spread of this hateful practice took off after a video of guests at Sylt resort's spring festival, making the rounds on the internet, caused a stir.

As a result of their party antics, some of the video's participants have faced repercussions. The man in the video who appears to be making a Nazi salute has been fired by his employer, the Serviceplan Group. In a statement, the agency voiced their stance on racism, saying, "Racism is not tolerated in any form within the company."

A woman featured prominently at the start of the video has lost her job too. It was revealed that she worked for Milena Karl, a well-known influencer with more than 800k followers on Instagram. Disowning her former employee, Karl wrote on her Insta page, "I'm shocked, hurt, and disappointed to see someone in the video was under my employ," adding that she had ended the employment relationship with immediate effect upon learning about the video. Karl, a migrant herself and a soon-to-be mother, lamented the society the video represents and said it's not where she wants to raise her child.
