Roger Penske Honored with Presidential Medal of Freedom for Lifetime Achievements

Roger Penske, a titan in motorsports and business, has been awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The honour recognises his decades of achievement in racing, corporate leadership, and philanthropy. A White House ceremony marked the occasion, with President Trump praising Penske’s extraordinary career. Penske’s journey began with a passion for cars and racing. After studying business administration at Lehigh University, he made his mark in motorsports early on. In 1961, Sports Illustrated named him the Sports Car Club of America Driver of the Year.

He shifted focus from driving to team ownership in 1966. That year, he founded Team Penske after opting not to qualify for the 1965 Indianapolis 500. The team grew into a powerhouse, dominating both the IndyCar Series and NASCAR.

Beyond racing, Penske built Penske Corporation into a global enterprise. He often credited his success to the skilled people around him. His contributions extended to philanthropy, further cementing his legacy.

At the White House, Trump called Penske a 'legend in the speedway' and a 'legend in business.' The ceremony included Penske’s family, highlighting the personal significance of the award. The Presidential Medal of Freedom, established in 1963, honours those who make exceptional contributions to the US. Penske’s lifetime of work in motorsports, business, and charity earned him this distinction. His influence will continue to shape industries and inspire future generations.
