Penn National's $120M Hollywood Casino York Wins State Approval
Penn National Gaming has won approval for its second Pennsylvania casino project. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board gave unanimous backing to Hollywood Casino York, an $120 million venue set to open in the former Sears store at York Galleria Mall. Company CEO Timothy Wilmott welcomed the decision as a major step forward.
The new casino will occupy 80,000 square feet of space. Inside, visitors will find a sportsbook, a casual restaurant, a coffee house, and an entertainment stage. Gambling operations will start with up to 750 slot machines and 30 table games.
Construction is expected to take 12 months. Once complete, the casino will create 200 full-time jobs. Access will be controlled through a single entry point, separate from the mall, to ensure only those aged 21 and over can enter. Revenue from slot machines will face a 54 percent tax rate. Of this, 34 percent will go directly to Pennsylvania’s Property Tax Relief Fund. The project marks Penn National’s first successful Category 4 bid and the second casino to gain state approval under this category. Meanwhile, the company is already building Hollywood Casino Morgantown, having secured its licence earlier.
Hollywood Casino York is now cleared to move ahead with development. The venue will bring gaming, dining, and entertainment to the mall site while contributing tax revenue to local relief funds. With construction underway, the casino is set to open within a year.
