Mansfield Council Unveils 99 New Eco-Friendly Homes for Affordable Rent
Mansfield District Council has announced plans to build 99 new eco-friendly council homes for affordable rent. The schemes aim to address local housing shortages while supporting government carbon reduction targets. A final decision on funding will be made by the full council on 27 January. The largest development, Poppy Fields on Centenary Road, will provide 77 homes for older residents and families. Costing £14.8 million, the project will include two-bedroom bungalows, helping to ease a district-wide shortage. The homes will meet the Future Homes Standard, ensuring higher energy efficiency and lower carbon emissions.
A second scheme will deliver 22 family homes on Egmanton Road, part of the Bellamy Road estate. This £5.7 million project will also follow strict environmental guidelines. All properties will be owned and managed by the council, with flexible designs to adapt to future needs.
The construction work is expected to create jobs and supply chain opportunities for local businesses. Both developments will prioritise high-quality, sustainable housing for rent at affordable rates. The council’s plans will now go before the full council for final funding approval on 27 January. If approved, the projects will add 99 energy-efficient homes to Mansfield’s housing stock. The new properties will remain under local authority control, ensuring long-term affordability for residents.
