EA's $55 billion sale sparks fears for The Sims' future under new owners
**Life** **Games** ## "Sims" is being sold - fans worry about LGBTQIA+ content
**168** Electronic Arts (EA), the company behind popular video games like EA Sports FC (formerly "FIFA") and "The Sims", is being taken over for around $55 billion (44 billion Swiss francs) by an investor group. **Among the buyers are the Saudi Arabian state investment fund and the investment firm of US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner**. Online, the sale is causing a big stir.
"The Sims" has always been diverse
Especially concerned about this development are "The Sims" gamers. Mainly because the game has been unapologetically diverse since the base game. Same-sex relationships and people of all skin colors have been part of it since the beginning. Men can even get pregnant in the game.
"Now it's time to switch to Inzoi"
Many fans now fear that "The Sims" and other EA games will be influenced by the values of Saudi Arabia and Donald Trump's son-in-law. "Great, now women in Sims can only be housewives," a critic writes on TikTok, while another says: "Now it's time to switch to Inzoi." Inzoi is a 2025 simulation game that resembles "The Sims" greatly.
The criticism has become so large that even EA CEO Andrew Wilson has spoken out: "This is a new era full of possibilities, but the company's values and commitment to players remain unchanged," the 51-year-old said. Together with the new partners, he wants to strengthen the creativity of the teams, accelerate innovation, and "create experiences that inspire generations of players." The sale of EA is planned for 2027.
"The Sims" was first released in 2000 and is one of the most successful games worldwide. Players can create characters - so-called Sims - and shape their lives. From birth to teenager, to building a house and having children, to death, players accompany their Sims. They try to keep them happy and fulfill their life wishes. Since the original "The Sims" game, "The Sims 2", "The Sims 3", and "The Sims 4" have been released. There are dozens of expansion packs for each base game that can be purchased to make the game more fun. Over the last 25 years, the simulation game has established itself as a cult game. (sav)
