BetBlocker expands to Slovakia to combat rising illegal gambling crisis

BetBlocker, a charity helping people self-exclude from gambling, has expanded into Slovakia. The move comes as up to 300,000 Slovakians may be involved in illegal betting by August 2025. The organisation is now working with the national gambling helpline to offer support in the local language. BetBlocker has partnered with Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním, Slovakia’s national gambling helpline. The charity provides free self-exclusion tools and support for those struggling with gambling. Erik Kovac, a psychologist at the helpline, has already begun recommending BetBlocker to callers.

The charity aims to double its user base in Slovakia this year. As of 2025, it has 250,000 registered users worldwide. Duncan Garvie, BetBlocker’s founder, believes teaming up with local groups is the best way to reach those in need.

Slovakia’s national self-exclusion register had 20,000 people signed up by July 2025. BetBlocker also supports immigrants in the UK by offering services in their native languages. The charity continues to develop new ways to help gamblers block access to betting sites. The partnership with Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním strengthens BetBlocker’s presence in Slovakia. With illegal gambling on the rise, the charity’s tools and local-language support could provide crucial help. The goal is to make self-exclusion and recovery more accessible across the country.
