Wynn Resorts Agreement on Sexual Misconduct Claims by Beauty Salon Employees

Wynn Resorts Ltd. recently reached a settlement with nine anonymous women who filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the company in 2019. The details of the agreement, including the amount, are confidential.

The women, who worked as manicurists or makeup artists at Wynn or Encore, accused CEO and founder Steve Wynn of inappropriate behavior, such as "inappropriate physical touching," "grabbing [plaintiff's] hands and forcing her to massage him near his genitals during a manicure or pedicure," and "asking inappropriate sexual questions." There were no accusations of sexual assault.

The women filed their claims under the pseudonyms "Judy Doe Nos. 1-9," requesting anonymity due to the potential for retaliatory lawsuits and the potential disruption to their lives and careers.

Wynn's Resignation

Despite Steve Wynn's claims of innocence regarding the sexual misconduct allegations, which have never resulted in a criminal conviction, the allegations led to his resignation as both CEO and chairman of Wynn Resorts in February 2018. He also agreed to pay a $10 million fine in July 2023 as part of a settlement with the Nevada Gaming Commission related to the accusations.

Steve Wynn, 81 years old, is a prominent figure in Las Vegas' casino history. He revolutionized the Strip by transforming it from a place of cheap buffets and outdated entertainment to the luxury destination it is today. Wynn was responsible for creating The Mirage and Bellagio.

Since 2018, Wynn has been living in seclusion in Florida, where he claims to be an art collector. According to Forbes, his net worth is $3.2 billion.

Court of Appeals and Judge Navarro

In July 2020, U.S. District Judge James Mahan dismissed the case, stating that it lacked sufficient detail and that the women had failed to defend their decision to remain anonymous. However, in November 2021, the Ninth Circuit Appeals Court reversed this decision, allowing the women to provide more information about their allegations. As a result, the case was returned to the District Court under the jurisdiction of U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro.
