"Euthanasia is the answer" was inscribed on the wall. - Vile assault on a center for the disabled.
Employees at a Mönchengladbach Lebenshilfe e.V. (North Rhine-Westphalia) residential home recently discovered a broken door and a brick nearby with the message "Euthanasia is the solution". They immediately contacted the police.
With this message, there's a possibility that far-right extremists could be responsible for the damage. Back in 1939, Adolf Hitler had launched a program known as "Euthanasia", where he ordered the deaths of numerous disabled and mentally ill individuals, or had them forcibly sterilized.
This is the second time in a week that buildings connected to the Lebenshilfe in North Rhine-Westphalia have faced attacks. Just during Pentecost, the facade of the business office was vandalized with a brick from an unknown assailant. Coincidentally, this incident occurred only a few kilometers from the residential home. At first, the management assumed it was simple vandalism.
Özgür Kalkan, the leader of Lebenshilfe Mönchengladbach e.V., expressed his thoughts in a press release, stating that: "These acts are not just an attack on our organization but also on the values of mankind, respect, and tolerance which we've championed for many years. These latest incidents are a cowardly attempt to undermine our valuable work and cause fear and division."
The authorities are now examining whether the two incidents are linked. Additionally, they're exploring if there's a link to a failed arson attack on an SPD office that occurred in late April. During this attack, they found newspapers soaked in liquid and a burnt matchstick.
