Two prominent athletes of Las Vegas' sports scene tie the knot.
Swap places, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, Las Vegas introduces its new sports power duo. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller, aged 30, and Las Vegas Aces guard Kelsey Plum, 28, exchanged vows in the presence of loved ones in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Plum announced the joyous event on her Instagram, labeling the wedding photos with "Him ❤️ 3.4.23."
These sports stars, standing tall in their respective fields, started dating last year, according to reports. Their romantic bonding signifies the first romantic expression of professional sports' short stint in Sin City.
Las Vegas welcomed its first WNBA team in 2018, followed by its first NFL team two years later.
Wishes flooded in from across the sports world. Plum's ex-team mate, Candace Parker, commented on Instagram, "Congrats man, you look stunning." Super Bowl LVI champion Odell Beckham Jr. also extended his congratulations, saying, "Congratulations to y'all!!".
Their Impressive Stats
Plum, now adorning her wedding ring, adds to her WNBA championship ring earned with the Aces in 2022 – the same year she made her first All-WNBA First Team and was named the WNBA All-Star Game MVP for the first time.
Following a record-breaking college career with the Washington Huskies, Plum joined the Aces organization in 2017. Back then known as the San Antonio Stars, they selected Plum as their first overall pick in that year’s WNBA draft.
Waller, one of the NFL's most formidable players, joined the Raiders in 2018 when the team, still stationed in Oakland, signed the tight end from the Baltimore Ravens practice squad. Waller had a remarkable 2019 season, surpassing the 1K-yard mark. His impressive performance continued when the team moved to Las Vegas in 2020. In that year, Waller set career highs in receptions (107), receiving yards (1,196), and touchdowns (9). In 2021, his fellow players ranked him 35th on the NFL Top 100 annual list.
Not Everyone's a Well-Wisher, Though
Not every sentiment left on the web was warm and fuzzy.
"Kelsey Plum betrayed me, and I don't think I'll ever be able to forgive her," posted a distraught @SonnyK_. "I'm not okay."
@liam_christin chipped in with a comment, "baby's genes about to be unfair."
Waller and Plum applied for their marriage license on January 22, as per the Clark County Clerk’s Office records.
