Using communal means of transportation - The U3 section is closed, transforming Saarlandstraße into an accessible area.
From mid-May to early July, the U3 subway line in Hamburg will be suspended between Kellinghusenstraße and Barmbek due to renovations. During this period, passengers will have to switch to buses, according to Hochbahn.
The reason for this six-week interruption is construction at Saarlandstraße station, where two new lifts and a guidance system for the visually impaired are being installed in the name of accessibility. In addition, the platforms will be extended to 125 meters and the rooftops, windows, and lighting of the historic station building will be updated, according to Hochbahn's statement.
96% of Hamburg's subway stations are already completely accessible, but only the U3 stations at Sternschanze and Sierichstraße still need to be made accessible. These improvements are planned to be carried out after the work on Saarlandstraße and Meßberg is completed.
