The Good Law Project Lodges a Grievance Against GambleAware
As reported on the CIVILSOCIETY platform, the complaint against GambleAware was instigated by the independent charity, The Good Law Project.
The Good Law Project has raised doubts about GambleAware's ties to the gambling industry. They contend that GambleAware shields the gambling sector from accountability and attributes the harm caused by excessive gambling promotion to individuals. Last year, residents of London appealed for a prohibition on gambling advertisements in all public transport within the city.
Further issues were brought forward regarding the tool 'assess your spending', which aids gamblers in monitoring their expenses. The Good Law Project contends that the program fosters feelings of shame and guilt, failing to offer advice on responsible gambling. Ian Browne, legal advisor at Good Law Project, challenged the UK Charity Commission:

What is GambleAware?
GambleAware is a UK charity whose mission is to promote awareness and reduce harm from gambling. It also offers assistance to problem gamblers and provides information on various therapeutic options. Last year, GambleAware published data indicating that individualized therapy is effective for nine out of ten individuals.
However, GambleAware also reported that two-thirds of problem gamblers in the UK decline to acknowledge their gambling problem. It also commissioned a study to investigate the factors contributing to gambling addiction among women in the UK.
GambleAware Responds to The Good Law Project's Allegations
GambleAware has refuted the accusations from The Good Law Project, deeming them unfounded and defamatory. Zoe Osmond, CEO of GambleAware, stated:

The future of the UK Charity Commission's investigation into the matter remains uncertain.
The Good Law Project has expressed concerns about the online casinos in Germany, as they believe GambleAware, despite being a UK charity, may be promoting casino platforms in Germany via its resources, potentially misleading users about the dangers of online gambling.
In light of this, the Good Law Project is calling for transparency and accountability in GambleAware's operations, questioning whether the charity is fulfilling its duties accurately when it comes to online casinos in international markets, including Germany.
