SCM emerges victorious in the painful contest. - The Erlangen coach becomes furious: "They collapse each time I criticize them"
In the start of the match on March 21, SCM was leading 27:22, and the sold-out crowd of 8,400 in Nuremberg Arena witnessed an intense battle. Magdeburg first took the lead at 14 minutes through Albin Lagergren, making it 8:7. SCM maintained a three-goal lead going into the break, primarily due to Omar Ingi Magnusson scoring eight goals.
During half-time, Magnusson told Dyn: "The away game, full house, and a formidable team. That's what we expected. We need to carry on as usual, remain consistent, allow others to commit errors, and do our own thing."
Erlangen made nine blunders in the first half. Afterward, Erlangen's ace right back Antonio Metzner (27) remarked: "They just came too easily. That's why we fell short. However, the only thing was that."
HCE started the second half aggressively, scoring two goals in a row, making it 16:17. The intensity on the field intensified gradually. Felix Claar and soon-to-be-Magdeburg player Tim Zechel had a quarrel. SCM pulled further ahead, leading by four goals after 37 minutes (21:17).
In the 41st minute, Erlangen's Head Coach Johannes Sellin (33) summoned a timeout with the score at 24:18, and rallied his players: "When we aim for a goal, we should give it our all. It's okay. Persist and take the shot, but then you must drop to the floor. They're on the floor whenever they do anything, while we get whistled for every joke. Now, I want us to perform at full throttle, men!"
Erlangen increased their efforts and played hard, but Wiegert's team displayed their talent and did not let the away victory (32:27) slip away. Magnusson scored the most goals in the game, with a total of 14 goals.
Moreover, SCM supporters can rejoice as the players came out of the match unscathed. The game continues on Thursday (7 p.m./Dyn) at home against Balingen in the GETEC Arena.
