Dutch Regulatory Body KSA Levies Largest Fine of €19.6 Million on Gammix

As reported in an article on SBCNEWS portal [link], the Dutch regulatory authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) has penalized gaming provider Gammix with an unprecedented fine of €19.6 million due to numerous infractions of Dutch gaming laws.

Last year, Gammix was instructed by the KSA to withdraw from the Dutch gaming market for lacking a valid gaming license. If Gammix failed to comply, the regulatory body threatened a weekly fine of €1.4 million. Expressing non-compliance, a €4.4 million fine was levied on Gammix in March 2023. KSA further accused Gammix of failing to exclude Dutch players from its gaming platform.

KSA alleges that Gammix continues to operate unlicensed gambling on platforms Rantcasino.com, Betoriginal.com, and Nordslot.com within Dutch territories, resulting in the hefty €19.6 million fine. René Jansen, KSA chairman, commented on the penalty imposed on Gammix:

It's vital to protect Dutch players, and we take stern action against illicit offers. We observe that illicit providers often show negligence towards players, disregarding duty of care… We've noticed the same apathy from this provider; there wasn't adequate age verification. This is certainly disheartening. We'll persist in imposing penalties, even if providers persistently err. René Jansen, KSA chairman, SBCNEWS

Substantial Penalties Enforced by UK Gambling Commission

Previously, gaming providers have also endured severe penalties by the UK Gambling Commission. At the beginning of 2024, Gamesys was penalized with a fine of £6 million (€7 million) due to social responsibility breaches.

Entertainment provider Entain incurred a far heavier penalty in 2023; a total fine of £585 million (€674 million) was imposed for failing to prevent corruption.

Gammix Fine Based on Dutch Revenue

In determining the fine against Gammix, KSA utilized 6.5% of Dutch revenue as its basis, estimating the turnover at €302.7 million. Gammix announced its intention to contest the imposed fine in court at the beginning of March 2023.

The KSA's decision to levy a fine of €19.6 million on Gammix has been widely reported in the news, highlighting the regulatory body's strict enforcement of Dutch gaming laws. Despite being previously fined €4.4 million for non-compliance, Gammix continues to operate unlicensed gambling platforms within Dutch territories, attracting further penalties.
