Disorder during the Thuringia voting event. - The AFD party can no longer be referred to as AFD.
In the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, a power struggle within the party has resulted in a split, with two different lists in the municipal election happening this Sunday.
▶︎ The Showdown: AfD vs. AfL (Alternative for the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt region)
Right-wing extremist Björn Höcke (52) is even campaigning for the AfL on posters and wants to kick out the rebels from the party. The dissidents, on the other hand, want Höcke to be removed from the party.
Now the state leader is prohibiting local politicians from the original AfD from using the party's logo, abbreviation, and name. In other words, AfD members are no longer allowed to refer to their party as the AfD. If they do, Höcke even threatens to sue them!
Also, a previously undisclosed document reveals that the federal leadership already allowed the Thuringia state association to take legal action against the misuse of names and logos by local politicians in March. This could be a response to the resistance against Höcke in the state.
Police Involvement
Emotions in the region are rapidly escalating. On Thursday, the police had to step in to resolve a conflict in Rudolstadt. The cause: a shop owner (47) tried to prevent AfD Bundestag member Michael Kaufmann from setting up his campaign stand with AfL local council candidates in front of her shop window.
The police reported a verbal confrontation. However, eyewitnesses claim that several individuals made threats against each other, including making references to concentration camps. Both parties have since filed complaints with the authorities.
The AfD state association vehemently denies the allegation that an AfL candidate told the woman, "You deserve to go to Buchenwald with your actions." on X (formerly Twitter).
