Starting from April 2025, WestLotto and Scientific Games will establish approximately 3,000 lottery kiosks across North Rhine-Westphalia.

WestLotto and tech giant, Scientific Games, have sealed a new deal. Come April 2025, over 3,000 Contour.v-Terminals, boasting high-definition screens for both staff and players, will be installed in retail outlets with a lottery branch in North Rhine-Westphalia. These terminals will enable self-scanning of lottery tickets.

Modernizing WestLotto with Advanced Contour.v-Terminals

Following a recent report by GAMBLING INSIDER [link], WestLotto and Scientific Games have joined forces to introduce lottery terminals into retail outlets scattered across North Rhine-Westphalia. By April 2025, approximately 3,000 lottery branches will be upgraded with the advanced Contour.v-Terminals from Scientific Games.

This move is another stage in the evolution of WestLotto's entertainment options. Earlier this year, WestLotto collaborated with OpenBet to integrate Neccton technology into its NRW lottery outlets. This partnership allows WestLotto to monitor customer gaming activities and fortify security measures for player protection.

Alongside the Contour.v-Terminals, Scientific Games will also offer WestLotto a retail management system, point-of-sale technology, and sports betting products. WestLotto CEO, Andreas Köttner, expressed his enthusiasm over the partnership between WestLotto and Scientific Games:

With our partnership with Scientific Games' long-time tech partner, we are enhancing our retail network. [...] The new camera-based terminals symbolize the digitalization of transactions in our retail environments, and we anticipate a favorable reaction from both our retailers and our players. Andreas Köttner, CEO of WestLotto, GAMBLING INSIDER

Scientific Games also shared its satisfaction with the collaboration. It is optimistic that WestLotto will easily attain its modernization objectives with the new terminals and provide its gaming customers with an enhanced and more comfortable gaming experience. Matthias Müller, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Scientific Games, emphasized:

WestLotto has consistently demonstrated a dedication to technology. [...] The transition to optical terminals represents another instance of a visionary approach to modernizing the lottery retail experience. [...] We are thrilled that WestLotto continues to rely on Scientific Games' technology and support services. Matthias Müller, Vice President for Sales and Marketing at Scientific Games, GAMBLING INSIDER

From April 2025, lottery enthusiasts in NRW will utilize the new terminals to purchase lottery tickets from various German lotteries, including 6 aus 49, Super 6, and Spiel 77.

WestLotto: A Brief History and Recent Milestones

Established in 1955 as Nordwestlotto under the auspices of the Northwest German Class Lottery Association, WestLotto is the primary lottery operator in the most populous German state, North Rhine-Westphalia. Initially offering just the lottery 6 aus 49, the company has gradually expanded its portfolio to include the Glücksspirale and additional lotteries such as Super 6 and Spiel 77. In 1974, the highest prize for 6 aus 49 was increased from the initial 500,000 DM (around 255,646 euros) to 1.5 million DM (roughly 766,938 euros).

The Current Form of the Lotto Jackpot at WestLotto, Established in 1985

Since 2000, WestLotto has extended its services to include sports betting in North Rhine-Westphalia under the name ODDSET. In 2005, lottery players in NRW gained access to the KENO lottery, with daily new draws. Since 2012, participation in the Eurojackpot has been possible at WestLotto.

Modernization and Technological Advancements in Lotto-Germany

WestLotto is not the only German lottery company embracing advancements and modern technologies. As of March last year, Lotto BW became the first German lottery company to offer online slots on the erwin platform. Gambling enthusiasts have gained access to popular online slot machines like Book of Ra deluxe and Lucky Lady’s Charm.

On the contrary, Lotto Hessen has already installed Lotto terminals in Netto discount store branches since October 2020. Lottery players in Hesse can now complete their lottery tickets and even cash out winnings up to 8,000 euros using the touchscreen terminals.

Lotto players in NRW will have to wait until April 2025 for the first Lotto terminals to be installed. However, it is expected that the terminals will streamline the entire process, making it more comfortable for both players and staff.

The Future of Lottery Gaming in North Rhine-Westphalia

As the installation of Contour.v-Terminals approaches in April 2025, lottery enthusiasts eagerly await the new gaming experience. These advanced terminals will not only modernize the lottery retail environment but also provide an upgraded news feature for players, offering the latest lottery results and News.

WestLotto's Continued Growth and Innovation

In addition to the retail management system and sports betting products, the Contour.v-Terminals from Scientific Games will enhance WestLotto's capability to keep players updated with timely News. With this new feature, lottery players can stay informed about their favorite games, promotions, and community events, further enriching their gaming experience.
