Security personnel at Paris Las Vegas apprehended a suspect accused of burglarizing seven hotel rooms.

Last week, an individual identified as Robert Black was apprehended following accusations of breaking into and robbing seven guest rooms at the Paris Las Vegas hotel. Authorities claim he managed to make off with over $5K worth of goods within a few hours.

Security personnel at the Paris Hotel captured Black on June 2, thanks to a carefully planned operation. Guests had been reporting missing cash and personal belongings from their hotel rooms and suites, leading to the creation of this operation.

Security personnel placed a wallet containing $600, along with other high-value items, inside a designated room while installing concealed cameras for surveillance. They were stationed in an adjacent room, monitoring the designated room through the camera in real-time.

Black eventually entered the room, stealing the wallet left unattended in a suitcase. Upon noticing his actions, the security personnel promptly arrested him, and later handed him over to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) officers.

Upon search, it was discovered that Black was carrying $5,365 in US cash, $990 in Canadian currency, a flathead screwdriver, and a stolen hotel room key.

Black was charged with five counts of burglary and one count of attempted burglary. It was further revealed that he had a prior conviction for conspiracy to commit robbery and attempted burglary in 2017.

Thefts during the Night

Several hotel guests reported missing cash during late-night break-ins between 3 a.m. and 8 a.m. on June 2.

A couple on the ninth floor woke up at about 3 a.m. when they heard their room door open. One of them witnessed a shadowy figure, who soon left after closing the door. They discovered $550 was missing from their wallet.

The LVMPD noticed signs of forced entry, such as pry marks near the door lock and a missing peephole.

Approximately half an hour later, another couple in an 11th-floor suite also heard their door opening. They shouted out, but received no response. Nothing appeared to be stolen.

At about 3:30 a.m., $244 was taken from a 12th-floor room.

At 6 a.m., a guest on the seventh floor woke up to find $2,400 in cash and an $80 money clip missing from their suite. The peephole was damaged, according to the police report.

At around the same time, a guest on the 11th floor woke up to find $1,100 in US cash and $800 in Canadian money missing. Another couple claimed $925 was stolen from their room while they were sleeping.

In every instance, the stolen rooms were nearby hotel elevators. These rooms were also in the same hotel wing, and the peepholes were tampered with. Moreover, the guests were in the rooms during the break-ins, authorities stated.

Spike in Burglaries

The sting operation was put in place following an increase in burglaries in guest rooms since April. The Paris Las Vegas, a property catering to 2,916 rooms or suites on the Las Vegas Strip, had apparently been experiencing an uptick in such incidents.
