Great Deals at Lidl - Please fetch a balcony power supply unit.

In the year 2023, approximately 275,000 balcony solar power systems were installed in Germany, which is three times more than the previous year.

Presently, balcony solar power systems with an output of 830 watts and an inverter capacity of 800 watts can be found at Lidl for purchase. At the moment, they are available at a discounted price of 299 euros, originally priced at 599.99 euros. Additionally, shipping costs are not charged for those who pick the product up in-store. However, mounting brackets and cables are not included in the purchase.

Contrarily, Netto also has a similar balcony power plant, priced at 299 euros with shipping costs and featuring mounting brackets and cables included in the purchase.

Balcony solar power systems are a worthwhile investment and factors to consider before making a decision.

Simplified Laws to Promote Solar Energy

To support mini-PV systems, there is a new solar package with the following changes:

►Value Added Tax (VAT) exemption came into effect in January 2023.

⚠️Update: The allowed feed-in power has increased from 600 watts to 800 watts and will be implemented in Spring 2024.

►No obligation to report to the grid operator for balcony power plants since April 1, 2024.

►Tenants no longer need landlord's approval for balcony power plant installation. [However, it is still recommended to inform the landlord before installation to avoid any legal complications.]

As per Dr. Hermann Dinkler, an energy expert at the TUV Association, "The legal changes make it simpler and quicker to set up balcony power plants and are a step towards a carbon-neutral power sector."

Is a Balcony Solar Power System Worth It for Me?

This depends on numerous factors according to the TUV Association, such as personal consumption and the alignment of the installation with the sun.

An example: With a south-facing orientation, an appropriate inclination angle of 35 degrees without any hindrance, and a power consumption of 2000 kWh per year, a 600-watt system pays for itself within five years.

What Else Should I Take Into Consideration?

► Flats with balconies, terraces, roof areas, or outer wall areas facing the sun are most suited for these solar power systems.

► Unsuitable are shady areas, such as behind the balcony railing, on the wall right under the balcony of the floor above. Additionally, an outdoor socket is required nearby.

► The solar modules should not weigh too much, and the balconies must be able to withstand wind and weather.

⚠️Caution: When mounting on outer walls, the insulation of the facade must not be damaged. Consumers should ensure that the components are compatible with the respective mounting location.

► Safety instructions should be carefully followed and certification marks considered.
