MotorCity Casino in Detroit cancels Brian McKnight's performance due to fan outcry.

A Brian McKnight concert scheduled for June 9th was canceled by the Detroit's MotorCity Casino Hotel not long after its announcement on their Facebook page.

The casino didn't provide any reason for their decision to cancel the show. However, it has been reported by The Source that the negative comments from former fans who were furious over a viral social media video McKnight posted back in April were behind the cancellation.

In the viral clip on TikTok, the R&B singer described his eldest two sons as "products of sin." Brian Jr. and Niko were born to McKnight and his ex-wife, Julie McKnight, before they got married. He also said that people should "get rid of the evil and negativity, even if that evil and negativity is related" to them.

Unhappy Responses

Following the casino's announcement of the concert, many negative comments poured in, such as...

"He has to be a narcissist to even think he still has a fan base after the way he's treated his children." - Lesley Hal

"As a superfan of Brian McKnight, his recent actions have saddened me greatly. He is such a talented singer but jeez ... I can't support his music anymore." - Asha K Jones-Wade

"I wouldn't go if they were giving away the tickets!!!" - Andria Walker

At first, the casino turned off the comments section on their post. However, they eventually decided to cancel McKnight's concert.

McKnight has a total of six children, including two stepchildren with his current spouse, pediatric neurophysiologist Leilani Mendoza.

In the said TikTok video, McKnight referred to Julia McPhee, one of his stepchildren with Mendoza, as his "only daughter," although he had another daughter, Briana Knight, from a previous relationship with Patricia Driver.

"Briana is illegitimate and I don't acknowledge her existence," the singer explained when questioned about her in the clip. "She is definitely not my daughter. Thanks for letting me make that clear again, though."

McKnight has eight concerts listed on his current Ticketmaster calendar. Scheduled through December 20th, they include June 1st at Pala Casino near San Diego and July 12th at the Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City.
