Football: Major Excitements Await in Upcoming Matches - Leonardo Bonucci announces retirement from soccer.
Leonardo Bonucci is set to announce his retirement from soccer on Sunday, as shared by his current club, Fenerbahçe Istanbul. The team posted a farewell message accompanied by a picture of Bonucci with a signed jersey. Fenerbahçe has the potential to become the champions in the last game of the Turkish Süper Lig, though they're crossing their fingers that Galatasaray stumbles.
Bonucci, aged 37, hasn't played the part he was hoping for in Fenerbahçe, as he did when he was at 1. FC Union Berlin. Overall, he's played twelve games for the Turkish top-league team, but since the end of February, he's only made short appearances due to minor injuries.
Bonucci's move to Berlin during the summer stirred up quite a fuss in the soccer world. However, under the guidance of coaches Urs Fischer and Nenad Bjelica, he could only play in seven league games and three in the Champions League. After that, he transferred to Istanbul in the winter.
Bonucci had an illustrious career prior to this, mainly in Italy. The longest and most successful period of his career was with Juventus Turin, where he won the Italian Championship nine times and the Italian Cup five times. He also made 431 Serie A appearances and played 121 international matches for the Italian national team. In 2016, he was crowned as Italy's Footballer of the Year.
