Las Vegas Strip Will Witness Pro Pickleball's Introduction by Fontainebleau
The Fontainebleau resort on the Las Vegas Strip will be the site for the inaugural professional pickleball tournament.
Scheduled for August 27-September 1, the Las Vegas Pickleball Cup is part of the Professional Pickleball Association Tour.
Established in 2018, the Professional Pickleball Association awards over $5.5 million in annual prizes to its players and can be found in the sports betting market for the first time.
Fedor Banuchi, Fontainebleau's Senior VP of Entertainment, expressed excitement in a press release, stating, "As industry leaders in live events, sports, and entertainment, it's an honor to host one of the world's fastest-growing sports."
The Sports and Fitness Industry Association named pickleball the fastest-growing sport in the US in 2023 with almost 5 million players.
pickleball: The Fastest-Growing Game
Invented in 1965 in Washington State, pickleball combines elements of tennis, paddleball, and badminton. Two participants (singles) or four (doubles) use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net.
Pickleball was formally added to Webster's Dictionary in 1973.
Though pickleball bears a superficial resemblance to small tennis or large ping-pong, it has distinct rules.
The tournament will take place in the Fontainebleau's 105,000 square-foot, carpeted Royal Ballroom with no obstructive beams.
Registration fees for players are $95 plus a $40 event fee per entry. Spectator tickets are $25.
