Jackpot: 106-year-old celebrates birthday with $1,000 win, doubles casino winnings
The Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Wisconsin gave a 106-year-old woman a very special birthday gift last week when she won double the slot machine jackpot.
Serafina “Sarah” Papia Peterson won the $1,000 jackpot last Wednesday at the Milwaukee Gambling Center.
Casino management was so excited about the win that when the casino's CEO heard about their bonus on Friday, he decided to double it.
"When we heard about her big win, we were elated and wanted to make her 106th birthday even more special," casino CEO Dominic Ortiz told Milwaukee TV station WISN special."
Peterson is excited, too.
I am so excited to win this money. ” WISN quoted Peterson as saying. “I don’t know what I’m going to do with it, but I’m going to make a good choice. "
It turns out that the victory was actually due to an accident. Marge Larson, Peterson's niece, told Milwaukee television station WDJT that her aunt pressed 400 instead of the originally intended 50.
“All of a sudden, we saw ‘Jackpot’ and just dropped our heads,” Larson recalled.
I told my niece that I thought I was going to win today, but I didn’t expect that I would be so upset,” Peterson added to Fox News.
Peterson is a regular at the casino and has celebrated her birthdays there for years.
"We welcome Sarah every year on her birthday and thank her and her family for celebrating with us," Ortiz said.
Peterson's birthday party last week included a homemade cake from the casino, and the birthday boy wore a sash for the occasion. She also received a sweatshirt from Cream City Coffee.
What's the secret to their longevity? Peterson doesn't smoke or drink. She said her dog Happy also keeps her going.
I want to live for my dog, he's not a dog, he's a human being,"Peterson told WDJT."He takes good care of me. "
Their relatives and caregivers also take good care of them.
"It means a lot," she added. "They love me. Everybody loves me and I love them."
Peterson has always lived in the Milwaukee area, although she lives in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
She never thought she would live to be 106, but she's happy to have reached the milestone.
"I've had a good life, that's all I can say," Peterson said.
