In the realm of U.S. presidential election wagers, Donald Trump holds the lead in odds for victory.

On the 5th of November, the United States will hold its Presidential Election. Since the beginning of October, bets on this election have become legally allowed in the U.S., leading to an explosion in the betting market.

On the 2nd of October, a federal appeals court in the U.S. declared that betting on the presidential election is legal. The court had previously issued an inhibition [Link in English], but this was overturned. Consequently, numerous American bookmakers started offering bets on the election.

Since then, a multitude of Americans and international betting enthusiasts have put their money on the U.S. election. It is reported that over $1.2 billion (around €1.11 billion) has been wagered so far [Link in English].

A few days ago, there was a buzz about some substantial bets. Two unidentified individuals placed a total of $4 million (approximately €3.69 million) on a Trump victory, with odds of 78. Ever since, U.S. media has been speculating about the identities of these bettors.

Betting Shows Trump in the Lead

Ever since bets on the presidential election began, the odds for Donald Trump and his opponent, Kamala Harris, have fluctuated greatly. However, more people have been betting on a Trump victory in recent weeks.

On one of the most popular American betting platforms, Donald Trump currently has a 60.7% chance of winning, with Kamala Harris trailing behind at 39.1%.

These figures differ from the current polls for the U.S. election. In a national poll [Link in English], Kamala Harris leads with 49.2%, just ahead of Donald Trump at 47.5%.

Betting is Illegal in Germany

While a recent U.S. court ruling has allowed betting on the presidential election, political betting is illegal in Germany. The Interstate Treaty on Gaming in Germany determines which types of gambling are legal. In Germany, only sports betting is permitted.

Therefore, betting on the U.S. election or other elections is not allowed. This also extends to entertainment bets like betting on the ESC. Betting on snowfall, chart placements, and other events is also not allowed in Germany.

German bettors should stick to providers licensed in Germany and closely examine their offerings. Many offshore providers target German users, but this does not mean their offerings are legal in Germany.

A Close Election is Expected

In less than three weeks, the U.S. presidential election will take place. The poll numbers suggest a close election, despite the betting odds favoring Donald Trump.

In recent years, the results of U.S. elections have often been very close. Therefore, predicting the eventual winner can only be a matter of speculation at this point.

Interestingly, the rise in betting on the U.S. election has led to substantial amounts being wagered, with over $1.2 billion (around €1.11 billion) placed so far.

Despite this, it's important to note that political betting is currently illegal in Germany, and only sports betting is permitted under the Interstate Treaty on Gaming.
