The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has disclosed findings from the initial quarter of 2024, pointing towards a surge in alleged sports tampering incidences. Particularly, football and tennis have experienced a significant impact.
Suspicions escalate in Q1 2024
The recent IBIA report exhibits a notable rise in reports of dubious match activities during Q1 2024, with a total of 56 incidents. Compared to the previous quarter in 2023 (34 reported instances), and the same period in the preceding year (50), it represents a noticeable escalation.
The suspicions were spread across numerous sports, with football accounting for 24 instances and tennis contributing 14. Furthermore, approximately 41% of the cases were localized in Asia, primarily in Turkey.
