UK alleges - Harry abandoned his cancer-afflicted father.

When Prince Harry (39) made a trip to London in early May, he found himself closer to his father, Charles (75), than he had been in a while. However, there was no meeting with His Majesty. Harry's representatives claim that it was "regrettably not possible" due to the king's hectic schedule. UK media sources are now saying that this isn't true.

As reported by "The Telegraph," Harry supposedly turned down an invitation from the king. Charles proposed that the prince spend the night at one of the royal residences during his three-day visit, but Harry wanted to stay in a hotel instead.

This was a big snub for the father. But it seems there were more practical concerns behind this decision.

Prince Harry had security issues

Harry has reportedly cited "safety concerns" as the reason he didn't accept Charles' offer. The monarch's suggestion did not include taxpayer-funded security protection for the prince. This would have left him exposed at a "well-known location with multiple entrances and exits without police protection." Not an option for the security-conscious Prince Harry, suggests "The Telegraph." He chose to stay at a hotel where he could "come and go unnoticed." There's still no word on where he actually stayed.

Is this simple security issue really the reason for the failed father-son reunion? It seems unlikely. Relations between the two have been strained since Harry's departure from the royal family in 2020 and the release of his controversial autobiography "Spare" in 2023.

The issue of security continues to be a hurdle for Harry. While police protection for royals in the UK is taxpayer-funded, Harry has had to fund it himself since moving to the USA. It's a hefty expenditure for a prince who's starting to see his earnings dwindle.

In fact, Harry recently lost a legal battle against the British government over this exact issue. He wanted security cover at public expense during his trips to England, but the court rejected his request.

It looks like Harry will have to sleep in a hotel again during his next visit back home.

They were once so close: in 2019, the royal father-son relationship was still intact - at least on the outside
