Six Storeys on Soho redefines London's dining and event scene

Opened in November last year, Six Storeys on Soho is a bar, restaurant and events townhouse set in the heart of London's Soho.

Six Storeys is a truly unique offering as a semi-private events space that has various bars and restaurants available to hire over six floors of a London townhouse with a basement kitchen. As one of Camm & Hooper's latest London event spaces, it is a unique and decadent venue that caters for the most stylish of events. Camm & Hooper are one of London's leading events and hospitality groups that transform iconic London buildings such as a Victorian bathhouse, a 1930s Art Deco bank and a former tannery into truly innovative spaces fit for almost any event.

"What really captured our imagination was the potential to do six different concepts within the one house," commented Claire Lawson, Managing Director at Camm & Hooper.

Opened fully to the public in January of this year, the design concept draws from the history of the area it sits in. "The design brief was to create an intimate, private members-style environment. We drew from the illustrious and sometimes infamous history of Soho Square. In particular, the design was inspired by 'The Society,' London's first and possibly most decadent private member's club and 'The White House', an intoxicating labyrinthine den of vice, both of which were located on Soho Square in the late 18th Century," commented Russell Sage, Senior Designer at Russell Sage Studio and Lead Designer on this project.

"The design seeks to pay homage to Soho's perennial spirit of 'joie de vivre', from the 1780s to the 1980s, creating a town-house which captures this essence in a miniaturised form. The interiors take inspiration from a variety of design styles including Baroque, Victorian and Edwardian influences, all fused with the vibrancy of the 1980s Club Kids movement."

As it is a London townhouse Russell Sage worked with main contractors, 3 Interior Contracts Limited, to make changes in order for it to be more accessible for guests. There are two staircases in use, with the central staircase extended from the third floor to the fourth floor. Providing access from the entrance of the ground floor to all the upper floors is the rear staircase with a small lift reinstated to improve accessibility.

"The ground and first floors are accessible to the public as a bar and lounge space, with the upper floors available to be reserved separately or collectively for functions. The size of the building also allows for the entire house to be reserved for a single function. The idea is that guests have a self-contained environment which they can fully control should they desire. Even the credenza-style bars on each floor can be stocked for guests to access directly," added Russell.

Painted timber panelling, textured and pattered wallpapers and rich damask fabrics and velvets create an environment ideal for intimate dinners and events. Inspired by Thomas Chippendale and his 18th Century designs for the original Soho Square private members club, the furniture and cabinetry add another layer to the already decadent interior.

"The design scheme also retained some areas of original plaster cornicing and ceiling plasterwork as well as incorporating a distressed ceramic tiled floor, which was uncovered during the course of the works," commented Russell.

Each floor of the London townhouse offers something slightly different in order for guests to choose an atmosphere perfect for their event. From The Lobby Bar with its public bar and lounge area to elaborate drinks parties in The Decantery, there is a floor perfect for any occasion. For larger events the whole building can be hired, catering up to 300 people, for spectacular private parties.

"We wanted to celebrate the eclectic feel of Soho square and its past whilst giving our clients something that turned from a day venue to an evening venue," added Claire.

With a menu inspired by seasonal, British ingredients to create sumptuous dishes like 'Honey Glazed Ham Steak', 'Braised Beef Cheek Cottage Pie' and 'Six Storeys Bacon & Cheese Burger', guests are truly in for a treat at Six Storeys on Soho.
