Basketball is a popular sport where two teams compete against each other to score points by shooting a ball through a hoop. - "Gavel, the coach of champion team, departs from Ulm"
Anton Gavel is the one who accepts the blame for the early exit of basketball champions Ratiopharm Ulm from the play-offs.
"Ultimately, that's my fault. I should have prepared the team better for the entire series, so the disappointment is immense. I should have performed better. I didn't, and now I need to improve," said the Head Coach after the 72:75 loss to Würzburg Baskets, who progressed to the finals round. Ratiopharm Ulm suffered a 3-1 defeat in the quarter-finals.
The 39-year-old Gavel, who led Ulm to their first championship in the team's history last season, is moving on to join his previous club, Bamberg Baskets, this summer. "He deserves a proper goodbye because he's been a fantastic coach and a wonderful person here in Ulm. We celebrated the club's greatest victory ever under his leadership. He's a terrific coach and a terrific person," said team captain Tommy Klepeisz. Ulm will be replacing Gavel with Ty Harrelson.
