Play team sports with a ball that you throw into your opponent's goal while using your hands. - Foxes head to European League Finals alongside Flensburg
The defending European Handball League champions, Füchse Berlin, have advanced to the finals. They defeated their Bundesliga rivals, Rhein-Neckar Löwen, 33-24 (14-9), in the German semifinal match.
In the final, which takes place on Sunday in Hamburg, Füchse Berlin will face SG Flensburg-Handewitt. Flensburg won their match against Romanian champions Dinamo Bucharest, 38-32 (18-11). The top scorers for Füchse Berlin were Mathias Gidsel and Lasse Andersson, who each scored seven goals. On the other hand, Juri Knorr scored seven for the Lions.
Mannheim got off to a better start, with national player Jannik Kohlbacher making it 4-2 in the eighth minute. However, Berlin's goalkeeper Dejan Milosavljev stepped up his game, and Denmark's Hans Lindberg managed to score a goal by lobbing over the 2.00m tall Lions goalkeeper David Späth from a seven-meter penalty. This put the Foxes up 14-8 in the 26th minute.
The power balance typical of the Bundesliga was also reflected in the second half. The second-place team from Berlin always had the eleventh-place team from Baden under control. The Lions never got any closer than four goals. Füchse Berlin scored two goals in quick succession into the empty net of Mannheim, who had taken off their goalkeeper due to a time penalty, making it 22-15 at the 42nd minute.
Emotional return for Flensburg's Smits
Left-back Kay Smits had an emotional return to Flensburg's win. "It was like the first day of school after a long summer break," said the 27-year-old Dutchman, who had taken a six-month hiatus due to heart muscle inflammation. The Flensburg fans were thrilled when Smits scored in the ninth minute, making it 7-4. The top scorers of the game were Emil Jakobsen with eleven goals for Flensburg and Andrii Akimenko with seven goals for Bucharest.
