As reported by The Guardian, the Danish Football Association (DFA) has long been preparing to level the compensation between men's and women's squads.

A forthcoming four-year agreement, due to commence post-2024 Euro Championship, sees the men forsaking a salary boost and instead earmarking the saved funds for the women's side and U21 teams.

This new accord also incorporates enhanced insurance coverage for Dane females footballers, a concession that the men are embracing with a 15% cut to their earnings.

Fair Pay in Football Continues to Spark Controversy

Like Denmark, Brazil, England, Norway, Spain, and the USA are among the nations now providing their male and female national athletes an equal salary.

However, Germany, as highlighted by disparate income streams, may not see equal compensation in the near future. Since women's football generates less revenue, its remuneration typically lags behind. Yet, bonuses have already experienced considerable adjustment.

For instance, German national team member Svenja Huth of VfL Wolfsburg advocates prioritizing the development of emerging talents and their infrastructures rather than aggressively equalizing bonuses.

The Journey to Absolute Equal Compensation Still Extends

Despite equal pay for men and women players in some nations signifying greater parity, it's crucial to acknowledge that this affects only a select group.

As per BILD, Danish players at the 2024 Euro Championship stand to secure €76,000 - €294,000 based on performance, augmented by a six-figure bonus per game.

For Danish star Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, reportedly receiving around €6 million annually from English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, these bonuses represent a small fraction of his income.

Conversely, for top Danish player Pernille Harder, who previously collected less than €170,000 yearly at FC Chelsea, these bonuses could exert a meaningful impact on her earnings. For her fellow national teammates, the disparity between bonus and regular club wage is even more substantial.
