Julian Nagelsmann kicks off his home European Championship in a peaceful golf resort in Thuringia. Set in a picturesque countryside location, the national team manager invites his players to the exclusive lodging on the outskirts of Blankenhain on Sunday. Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and his teammates are due to arrive in the afternoon and evening.
For the next few days, Nagelsmann will train his team at a secluded training ground close to Weimar, before relocating to their European Championship accommodation in Herzogenaurach on Friday. A dedicated training field has been set up at the vast facility.
Initially, Nagelsmann will be missing Bayern Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz, Jonathan Tah, and Robert Andrich, whose arrival will be delayed, along with captain Ilkay Gündogan and Marc-André ter Stegen who will still be playing for FC Barcelona on Sunday.
Toni Kroos, Antonio Rüdiger of Real Madrid, and Dortmund duo Niclas Füllkrug and Nico Schlotterbeck, who will face each other in the Champions League final on June 1, are not scheduled to join the team in Thuringia.
The first training session is set for Monday, with around 15,000 fans expected to attend the match in Jena. The free tickets for the fan campaign were snapped up quickly. Following the DFB team, the England national team and Bayern star forward Harry Kane will both check into the hotel for the duration of the European Championship. Germany starts the European Championship on June 14 back in Munich against Scotland.
