No more playing soccer - Ex-Hansa professional Jänicke lands a new job
Tobias Jänicke, a former Hansa player, watched the season finale on TV with mixed feelings. He's 35 years old and hails from Neubrandenburg. Jänicke reflected upon his long career, "It's a shame the season ends this way. All the hard work seemed to be paying off. In the end, success on the field is all that matters."
With nearly 550 games under his belt, from the 1st to the 4th league, Jänicke is well acquainted with success and failure in football. In his first professional season with Hansa (2009/10), they were relegated to the 3rd league. After a recent stint in the 5th division with Pirmasens, Jänicke has decided to retire.
He won't completely stay away from the game, he's planning to play in the Oberliga, but his focus is on life after football. Jänicke said, "I'm joining the state police in my hometown of Saarland. I see many similarities between my new profession and football, like teamwork, dealing with people, and being in public. It's a good alternative."
As he winds down his football career, Jänicke remains a supporter of Hansa. He ruled out a direct promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, "There are a lot of ambitious teams in the 3rd league now. The pressure is high. It's difficult to plan one."
Despite the challenges, Jänicke is optimistic about Hansa's future, "The club is financially stable. It's only a matter of time before they right the ship."
