ESPN host Rece Davis retracts comments on sports betting
Veteran sports anchor Rece Davis of ESPN and ABC is walking back a sports betting comment he made Sunday ahead of top-seeded UConn's second-round March Madness matchup against ninth-place Northwestern.
As the lines between sports betting and sports analysis continue to blur, Davis welcomed ESPN Bet's Sports Betting Analyst Erin Dolan to College GameDay ahead of Sunday's game slate. Dolan offers her thoughts on how to bet on UConn games.
Dolan expressed excitement among bettors among the Wildcats’ 60.5-point over/under score. She thinks Northwestern needs to slow down the game to have a chance against UConn.
At the end of the section, Davis oddly expressed his opinion: Anyone who follows Dolan's advice is not gambling but making a risk-free investment.
do you know? Some people refer to this type of betting as gambling. "The way you sell it, I think it's a risk-free investment," Davis said.

Davis strongly disagrees
Davis later said the remark was a joke, and it came as baseball great Shohei Ohtani of the Los Angeles Dodgers defended himself after he was reportedly paid $4.5 million to repay his longtime friend and translator Sports Gambling Debt.

I joke that this advice is more like “risk-free investing.” As we all know, there is no such thing. There are clearly risks," Davis tweeted.

“While I am not a gambler, I strongly encourage participants to be cautious, cautious, prudent, financially and personally responsible, and never overexert themselves. Sports are unpredictable.
