Vienna's New Christmas Market Supports Children in Need This December
A children’s Christmas market will open in Vienna’s Donaustadt district from December 4 to 20. Organised by Mario Orth, the event will raise funds for young people in need. All proceeds will support children, single parents, and low-income families across the city. The market will feature four stalls, with plans to expand to eight in the future. Visitors can enjoy children’s punch, homemade cookies, and handmade Christmas decorations created by local schools and kindergartens. Every penny earned will go towards helping vulnerable children and young adults.
Alongside the festive market, Orth is launching a social market initiative. This separate project will provide free staple foods to those in need, sourced from wholesalers and private donors. Eligible individuals—including single parents, low-income pensioners, and students—will receive an identification card after a trust-based verification process. A future location for the social market is under consideration, potentially on Hütteldorfer Straße in the 14th district. Meanwhile, Orth has already funded €5,000 in renovations for the Butterbrot children’s group in Alsergrund, ensuring a safer space for local kids.
The Christmas market aims to bring festive cheer while supporting disadvantaged families. Funds raised will directly benefit children’s groups and social initiatives. The social market, once operational, will offer free food to those facing financial hardship.
