Unveiling the Shortlist for the Sustainability Awards of Packaging Europe 2025!
The Sustainability Awards 2025 has announced its finalists, showcasing an impressive array of sustainable packaging innovations from around the globe. Representing an internationally diverse set of submissions, the competition cohort includes well-known companies from countries like Ethiopia, India, China, Brazil, Australia, and beyond.
One of the standout entries is Xampla and Just Eat Takeaway, who are finalists for their Plastic-free, Morro-coated food-to-go box. Their innovative approach to food packaging is a testament to the growing trend towards environmentally friendly solutions.
Procter & Gamble is also a prominent contender, with multiple entries in the competition. They are finalists for their Versafiller paper-based honeycomb structure, Paper pulp spherical packaging box, and VersoVita solvent-based dissolution recycling technology. These groundbreaking innovations demonstrate Procter & Gamble's commitment to sustainable packaging.
SIPA has introduced the XFORM RENEW direct flake-to-preform technology, a significant step forward in the use of recycled materials in packaging production. Zafree Papers and 100+ Accelerator are another example of this trend, using tree-free, unbleached pulp and kraft liner for their packaging.
Hotel Emporium has introduced the LiquiFill bath liquid refill system, a clever solution for reducing plastic waste in the hospitality industry. Mondelēz International is also making strides in sustainable packaging with their MonoPaper outer packaging for Veritable Petit Beurre de LU.
The company that received the award for the paper pulp sphere packaging project in the 2025 Sustainability Awards is yet to be announced. However, the competition is fierce, with finalists such as Guangzhou Procter & Gamble, COPAR Smart Packaging, Blue Ocean Closures, Koehler Paper, and Mondelēz International vying for the top spot.
Gemini Corporation is developing Gemcorp Recycling's upcycled multi-layered plastic pallets, a promising development in the reuse of waste materials. Solenis is developing TopScreen TC744 water-based barrier coating for cupstock, a significant advancement in the production of sustainable packaging materials.
Beontag has introduced the Beontag Carrier eWave industrial-grade UHF label, a solution for tracking and managing sustainable packaging. Blue Ocean Closures is a finalist for its Fiber-based closure for nutraceutical supplements, another example of the growing trend towards biodegradable packaging materials.
Voidless has introduced the Voidless P2 automated packaging system for right-sized boxes, a clever solution for reducing waste in the packaging process. Klingenberg has introduced the Nomadbox reusable shipping carton, another example of the growing emphasis on reusable packaging solutions.
The finalists cover a wide range of sustainable packaging innovations, including fibre- and biobased materials, right-sizing and degradation technologies, preservative packaging and smart sensors, reforestation efforts, protective e-commerce designs, and sources of green hydrogen.
Glacier and 100+ Accelerator are finalists for their Glacier Recycling AI for automated recovery and real-time data, a significant advancement in waste management and recycling. Graphic Packaging International created the PaperSeal Shape paperboard tray for Pilgrim's Europe and Sainsbury's, a sustainable alternative to traditional plastic trays.
Paramount Planet Product has developed biodegradable nano-cellulose straws and flat sheets, a promising solution for reducing plastic waste in the food service industry. Coveris is a finalist for its ReCover Paper recycling facility, a significant step forward in the recycling of packaging waste.
Pack2Earth produces low-CO2, home-compostable biomaterials made from plant matter and minerals, a promising solution for reducing waste and carbon emissions in the packaging industry. CMC Packaging Automation introduced the CMC Super Vertical 3D Vertical Bagger and Auto-Packer, a solution for efficient and sustainable packaging production.
Flexpenser is a finalist for its Flexpenser one-way valve/pump, a sustainable alternative to traditional dispensing systems. Paramount Planet Product also created biodegradable nano-cellulose flat sheets, further demonstrating their commitment to sustainable packaging solutions.
RAWS is a finalist for its RAWS plastic degradation technology, a promising solution for addressing the issue of plastic waste. Sonoco is a finalist for its Smart, recyclable food cans for FareShare charity donations, a clever solution for reducing waste in the food industry.
The winners of the Sustainability Awards 2025 will be announced at the Sustainable Packaging Summit, taking place in Utrecht, Netherlands on 10th - 12th November. The competition is sure to be a showcase of the most innovative and sustainable packaging solutions of the year.
