Sverdlovsk Region revolutionizes waste management with new Ecopark system

The Sverdlovsk Region has taken major steps to overhaul its waste management system. Since November 1, 2025, Ecopark has been handling municipal solid waste (MSW) for 22 municipalities in the western part of the region. The changes come as authorities push for a more efficient and sustainable approach to waste disposal. The regional government has transferred full authority over MSW management to the Ministry of Natural Resources. A new inter-municipal transportation system is now in place, following the approval of an updated waste management plan. These moves aim to streamline operations across the region, which produces around 1.5 million tons of municipal solid waste each year.

A dedicated working group has been formed to modernise recycling and waste infrastructure. Oleg Mosharev will lead the team, focusing on technological upgrades and aligning the region’s efforts with the national *Ecological Well-Being* project. The group’s task is to develop practical solutions for improving waste processing and disposal. Concession agreements are also being finalised to build new processing facilities. Meanwhile, producers and importers in the region have received reminders about their legal responsibilities for disposing of product and packaging waste.

The reforms mark a shift toward a more structured waste management system in the Sverdlovsk Region. With Ecopark now operating in 22 municipalities and new infrastructure projects underway, officials expect improvements in recycling efficiency and environmental compliance. The working group’s proposals will shape the next phase of development in the coming months.
